Top traffic source Google, is this good?

Search Engine Optimisation is all about getting your website higher in the Google ranks, and so get more traffic from Google.

But when you're getting around 90% of your traffic from Google then this isn't always a good thing.

My first question to someone in this scenario would be why aren't you more active on social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter?

Facebook and Twitter are two of the top referring websites because they're places where people are forever sharing links.

Also blogs. Why isn't anyone talking about your website in their blog? Is your website of no actual interest?

If you're finding that around 90% of your website's traffic is referrals from Google then I'd say:

Get more active on Facebook and Twitter - Either open an account if you don't already have one, make some more friends/fans/followers, and post/tweet more often driving more traffic to your website.

If you have an articles area on your website then write an interesting article that people are likely to link to, or talk about in their own blogs.

Look at current trends or new technology and start talking about that, write your own review and try and get some user interaction by opening up comments on your website.

Add a game or little gimic to your website, a reason for people to come back to your website time and time again which will make people save your website in their favourites.

At the end of the day my suggestion would be to keep writing articles and blogs, then sooner or later there's going to be an article or entry that you write that people will find interesting and worth sharing.

A constantly updated website is always good for both search engines and for end users.
